Apple releases regular updates to iTunes that introduces new features, bug fixes and performance improvements. However, sometimes changes to the software may be undesirable to you or cause the program to operate sluggishly. You can revert to a previous version of iTunes by uninstalling the software and removing configuration files.
Windows
1.Launch iTunes. Click 'File' and select 'Export Library' to save your iTunes library if necessary. Quit iTunes when you have finished exporting the library file.
2.Click 'Start' and select 'Control Panel.' Click 'Uninstall a program.' To uninstall a program, select it from the programs list and click the 'Uninstall' button. You will need to uninstall 'iTunes,' 'QuickTime,' 'Apple Software Updater,' 'Apple Mobile Device Support,' 'Bonjour' and 'Apple Application Support.'
3.Restart your computer when you finish uninstalling all the iTunes software.
4.Click 'Start' and select 'Computer' after the computer has restarted. Navigate to 'C:Program Files' and delete the 'Bonjour,' 'iTunes,' 'iPod,' and 'QuickTime' folders. Open the 'Common Files' folder within 'Program Files' and delete the 'Apple' folder.
5.Launch a Web browser and navigate to the Old Apps website at www.oldapps.com/itunes.php.
6.Click 'iTunes' in the 'Audio Utilities' section and download the previous version of iTunes that you want to install on your computer.
7.Open your 'Downloads' folder and double-click the iTunes installation file to install the previous version of iTunes on your computer.
8.Launch iTunes when finished with installation. Click 'File' and select 'Import.' Select the iTunes file you exported previously to reload your iTunes library.
Mac
1.Launch iTunes. Click 'File' and select 'Export Library' to save your iTunes library if necessary. Quit iTunes when you have finished exporting the library.
2.Click 'Finder' and select 'Applications' from the left sidebar. Drag and drop the 'iTunes' icon from the 'Applications' folder to the 'Trash' icon in your dock or on your desktop.
3.Click 'Go' in the 'Finder' menu and select 'Utilities.' Double-click 'Activity Monitor,' select 'iTunes Helper' and then click 'Quit Process.'
4.Click the 'Apple' menu and select 'System Preferences.' Click 'Accounts' and then click the 'Login Items' tab. Click the 'iTunes Helper' entry and then click the subtraction sign to remove it from the auto-start list.
5.Restart your computer. After your Mac has restarted, right-click the 'Trash' icon in your dock or on your desktop and select 'Empty Trash.'
6.Click 'Finder,' select 'Go' and then 'Go to Folder.' Enter '~/Library/' in the text box and press 'Enter.' Drag and drop the 'iTunes' folder to the 'Trash' icon.
7.Double-click the 'Preferences' folder and delete all files beginning with 'com.apple.iTunes' by dragging and dropping those files to the Trash.
8.Double-click the 'ByHost' folder and delete all files beginning with 'com.apple.iTunes' by dragging and dropping those files to the Trash.
10.Launch a Web browser and navigate to the iHackintosh iTunes download page at www.ihackintosh.com/2009/06/download-all-versions-of-itunes-for-windows-mac/.
11.Download the version of iTunes you want to install on your Mac.

Open your 'Downloads' folder and double-click the iTunes installation file to install an old version of iTunes.
13.Launch iTunes after installation is complete. Click 'File' and select 'Import.' Select the iTunes library file you exported previously to restore your iTunes library.
